If your Epson printer won’t connect to WiFi, it usually means something is blocking the wireless handshake between the printer, router, and your phone or computer. The good part is that most WiFi connection problems come from settings, signal issues, or saved network details, and you can fix them by following a clear step-by-step process. Work through the steps below in order, because each step removes a common cause.

Start by confirming the WiFi basics. Make sure your router is powered on, the internet is working on another device, and you are trying to connect to the correct network name. Many homes have two bands, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, and most Epson printers connect more reliably to 2.4 GHz. If you see two network names, try the 2.4 GHz one. Also check that you are entering the WiFi password exactly, because even one wrong character will stop the connection.

Next, move the printer closer to the router. Weak WiFi signal is a top reason the printer fails to connect or drops off the network. Place the printer within a few meters of the router for initial setup. If setup works near the router but fails in its usual location, the issue is signal strength, interference, or walls. Later you can either reposition the printer or router, or use a WiFi extender.

Now restart everything in the correct order. Turn off the printer. Unplug your router and modem from power for 30 seconds, then plug them back in. Wait until the WiFi light is stable and the internet is back. Then turn the printer on. This clears temporary router glitches that can block new devices from joining the network.

After that, clear the printer’s saved WiFi settings. If the printer is trying to connect using old credentials, it can get stuck in a loop. On most Epson models, you can restore network settings from the printer’s control panel (look for “Network Settings,” “WiFi Setup,” or “Restore Network Settings”). Confirm the reset. Once the network settings are cleared, the printer will behave like it’s connecting for the first time.

Choose the best setup method for your situation. If your printer has a screen, use the WiFi setup wizard and select your network name from the list, then enter the password carefully. If your printer does not have a screen, use WPS setup if your router supports it. Press the WPS button on the router, then press and hold the WiFi button on the printer until the WiFi light starts flashing, and wait for it to become steady. WPS can be easier because it avoids typing passwords, but it doesn’t work on all routers and may be disabled on some networks for security reasons.

If the printer connects but your computer can’t find it, install or update the Epson software on your device. Many users connect the printer to WiFi correctly but cannot print because the computer is missing the required drivers or the Epson connection utility. Remove the printer from “Printers & scanners” on Windows or “Printers & Scanners” on macOS, then restart your computer. After restart, reinstall the latest Epson printer driver and setup tools for your exact model and operating system. Then add the printer again by selecting it from the network devices list.

Check the router settings if the printer still won’t join. Make sure the network is set to WPA2 or WPA3 security; very old security modes or “enterprise” authentication can block printers. Also confirm that MAC address filtering is not enabled, because that can prevent new devices from connecting unless you approve them. If your router has a “guest network,” do not connect the printer to guest WiFi unless you know it allows local device communication, because many guest networks isolate devices and block printing.

Also check for IP address conflicts. Sometimes the printer connects but drops quickly because the router is assigning an address that conflicts with another device. Restarting the router often resolves this, but if the problem repeats, you can reserve an IP address for the printer in your router settings. This gives the printer a consistent address and helps prevent it from disappearing from your computer.

Look at firewall and security software on your computer. If you can see the printer but printing fails, security software may be blocking printer discovery or network printing ports. Temporarily disable third-party firewall or antivirus protection and try printing again. If it works, re-enable protection and add your printer software as an allowed app. This ensures printing works without weakening your security long-term.

Update the printer firmware if connection problems keep returning. Firmware updates can improve WiFi stability, fix bugs, and enhance compatibility with newer routers. If your printer can connect even briefly, check for firmware updates through the Epson software on your computer. If it cannot connect at all, you may need a USB connection temporarily for setup and updates, depending on your model.

If you recently changed your router, WiFi name, or password, the printer must be reconnected. Printers do not automatically learn new network details. Reset the printer’s network settings again and repeat WiFi setup from scratch. This is especially important after installing a new router or switching internet providers.

Finally, test with a different network to confirm whether the issue is the printer or the router. You can use a mobile hotspot for a quick test. If the printer connects to the hotspot but not your home WiFi, the router settings or signal environment are the problem. If it won’t connect to any network, the printer’s WiFi module may be faulty and may need service.

In most cases, Epson printers fail to connect because of weak signal, incorrect password, old saved network details, router security settings, or missing drivers on the computer. By restarting devices, clearing saved WiFi settings, using the correct setup method, and checking router restrictions, you can usually restore a stable wireless connection and print normally again.
